Strength Training: The Fountain of Vitality

For years, when discussing exercise, doctors advised patients to simply “walk more”. While there’s nothing wrong with walking, from a fitness standpoint, it doesn’t get the job done.
Exercise science has advanced to the point where the health of individual cells (the average person has roughly thirty trillion of them) and organ systems (we have eleven of them) is the new gold standard. Our largest organ system, by weight, is our musculoskeletal system, so it’s no surprise that focusing our fitness efforts here packs the biggest punch.
A recent Medscape article (Medscape Medical News July 13, 2025) entitled “The Undervalued Medical Power of Muscle” is one of the first cross-specialty summary pieces I’ve seen that offers an unqualified endorsement of strength training. Noteworthy statements in the piece, which I’ve paraphrased, include:

“Skeletal muscle regulates more than 75% of insulin-mediated glucose disposal”
“Muscle mass is a heavy hitter when it comes to our daily calorie burn”
“Without proper exercise and nutrition, loss of muscle mass with age can have massive consequences”
“Survival is shorter for people with low muscle mass”
“Survival from severe burn injury is lowest in individuals with reduced lean body mass”
“Maintaining muscle demands early and proactive interventions”
“Skeletal muscle is a major regulator of inflammation”
“Resistance training is one of the most important interventions for overall health and wellness”
“Physicians don’t get into specifics with patients on what they should be doing”

At Revive Pain Solutions, we do. Strength training is an anchor of our pain management approach, and we help our patients every step of the way. By personal experience, we’ve learned that hormonal optimization combined with a well-designed strength training protocol reduces pain and slows the aging process. To the best of our knowledge, we are the only interventional pain management and integrative medicine practice in the area focusing this intensely upon the healing power of muscle health and hormonal optimization.
If you struggle with pain and fatigue and can’t seem to make progress, don’t despair. We may well have the treatment approach you’ve been missing.
